Just when I was about to descend into Andorra, noticed that my shades were gone. Must have fallen off my helmet around the spot where I fixed that first puncture. So, retraced my way for about a kilometer until I spotted the Julbo polychromic glasses, smack in the middle of the dirt track that is the Carretera de Tor. Not that I had expected anyone to grab them in the meantime, but I could have done without pushing my bike twice up this particularly nasty stretch of the Carretera. Ah, yes: It was the last time I pushed my bike during the #TPRNo1 for anything longer than a few feet.
Fun fact: I now have PR and silver medal on my Strava stats for the last segment up to the Port de Cabús summit.
From the summit of Port de Cabús followed a nice smooth ride for a few kms. The first scare came in the form of a rabbit which was much quicker in its reaction than me and kept us both from colliding.
Another few hundred meters later, the entire width of the tarmac road was covered in some grit. Mud with sharp rock shards had probably been washed across the road. Never thought I’d test the emergency running properties of my tires, but I could barely make it to a proper halt without crashing, when my (just repaired) front wheel fell flat within a second or so.
Another tube and quick inspection of the tire later, and I was on my way, but will have to disassemble everything in the morning as it didn’t feel right, all the way down to La Massana.
